En NY apareció la primera mujer tatuada profesionalmente, su debut fue en 1882.
Se llamaba Nora Hildebrandt era la hija de un tatuador llamado Martin
Martin tatuó la piel de su hija haciéndole un tatuaje cada día del año, en 1890 Nora se unió al Barnum Bailey Circus donde mostraba su tatuajes y estos sorprendían al público.
Era muy raro ver un hombre tatuado y ahora más extraño, una mujer repleta de tatuajes . Se consideraba algo freak ….
Hizo Tour con el circo en Europa principalmente Londres, después de poco tiempo aparecieron mas mas mujeres tatuadas y sus actuaciones eran mucho mejor pagadas que a los hombres tatuados. Se volvieron extremadamente populares no solo por el arte corporal, raro de esa época, sino que también permiten a los hombres ver partes de la anatomía femenina que no eran políticamente aceptadas mostrar.
La primera mujer incluida en el Tattoo Hold Fame fué Betty Broadbent una mujer tatuada por completo que se supone tenía más de 350 tatuajes, ella estuvo en el mismo circo que Nora.
Bety salió del circo y sus siguientes 40 años se dedicó exclusivamente a tatuar, hasta su muerte en 1983, de hecho muere en el mismo año que nace en México la tatuadora Xochitl Herrera siendo esta pionera en ser de las primeras reconocidas tatuadoras mexicanas.

The first professional tattooed lady appeared in NY and her debut was in 1882, her name was Nora Hildebrandt and she was the daughter of the tattoo artist Martin Hildebrandt.
Martin tattooed her daughter with a new tattoo each day of the year, in 1890 she joined the Barnum Bailey Circus where she would show her tattoos, which surprised the audience. It was very uncommon to see a tattooed man and even more unusual to see a lady covered in tattoos. It was considered something freaky…
She toured through Europe appearing mainly in London, after a while more and more tattooed ladies appeared and their performances were a lot more profitable than those of the tattooed men. They became extremely popular not just for showing the body art but also for allowing men to see parts of the female anatomy they weren’t allowed to see.
The first Tattooed lady to appear in the Tattoo Hall of fame was Betty Broadbent, who allegedly had over 350 tattoos and also joined the Barnum Bailey Circus and was even tattooed by Nora!
After leaving the circus she became a tattoo artist for 40 years until her death in 1983, same year when mexican tattoo artist Xochitl Herrera was born, she’s the fist important woman tattooist.
